Bird populations dying out

A seven-year study of birdlife in the central west of New South Wales has found the bird populations are in decline.

More than 80 species of woodland birds in the Cowra region are in a steady decline, due to extensive agricultural land clearing and decreased rainfall.

Australian National University biologist Julian Reid says significant increase in revegetation efforts is needed to save the species from local extinction.

The authors of a seven-year study tracking birdlife populations in the central west of New South Wales say the results are alarming.
